Hello, I've been enjoying reading your posts so far on adjusting to life in Chile for Start-up Chile. This has been very useful information and it's becoming more like an awesome travel blog! I've been thinking of applying myself but not sure if my start-up idea could qualify. I'm currently starting a freelance writing business writing for the Education Market and one of my ideas for Start-up Chile is to open a copywriting/editing start-up that edits schools' and companies ads' from overseas as a lot of them have poor translation in English and create excellent English copy for them to boost their global image.

By the way, can Tiny Ears be utilized to help with ESL children learners? I currently work in China as an ESL lecturer and there will be a huge market for that. I think there would be some people who might be interested in the material. If you'd like to get in touch, my email's ksirine.yu@gmail.com. Hope you're doing great in the Start-up process!

It seems to depend entirely on what mood they were in. First time around, they accepted photocopies of everything, but second time they were much stricter and only accepted originals. In fact they even rejected the receipt from my landlady which the had accepted in the first reimbursement. She only ever sends me digital copies of the receipt and they demanded the original (which I have never had). In the end the only way they would accept it was by being sent a photo of my landlady's RUT card.

Hey Emily, I was a round one participant. Does SUP now accept photocopies of receipts, they certainly demanded the originals from us.

If I was to do the entire thing again I would just hand in three bids for $40,000 worth of contract work, "outsource" the entire project, and be done with it.

Best of luck with the rest of your time!

Hi Emily,

A friend of mine, Tim Iles saw you talk last night and forwarded me your details. I am an independent app developer and creator of a children's book 'Timmy Tickle'. When I first started working on the App I really wanted to do something with voice recognition, but decided the technology wasn't quite ready yet.

I am a 3D animator, graphic designer and web developer and have used all my different skills on the project - writing and developing it from scratch and teaching myself the necessary technology. Last year I produced an App for Bob the Builder, 'Muck's Train to Trouble' was launched last year and is performing well, mainly because it's brand power.

Since then I have been back in the lab improving Timmy Tickle, based on the feedback from the iPad release. I have an updated version ready for iPhone coming out soon and am currently in the dreaded testing phase.

Obviously I am really interested in what you are up to and would love to chat!

Thanks

Hi Emily,

your edge problems are almost definitely related with the frequencies for hsdpa/3g, Chile I'm assuming will conform to the US standard which uses two different frequencies for 3G (or more so 4G). You're phone will be UK spec, so not establish a connection any faster as it can't communicate on the different frequencies used!

Apparently the newer phones are now being made worldwide compatible - or at least thats what i read last year, but I too had the same problem in the US. UK phone will most likely only get Edge, annoying as!

Hope things are going okay.
